Catherine Kurkjian
Professor   

            Dr. Kurkjian is a professor in the Department of Reading and Language Connecticut State University. She earned her doctorate in Reading from the University of Northern Colorado and an M.Ed. with a concentrate in  Reading from the University of Massachusetts. Her areas of specialization include children's literature, and the intersection of literacy and technology. She is past president of the Children's Literature and Reading Special Interest Group of the International Reading Association and  served as Editor and Associate Editor of its journal, The Dragon Lode http://www.csulb.edu/org/childrens-lit.   

She is currently Editor of the New England Reading Association Journal
http://www.nereading.org. She is serving as Conference Chair for the NERA Annual Conference to be held in Springfield, MA in September, 2008, and will rotate in as President of NERA in 2009. She serves as Research Co-Chair for the Connecticut Association for Reading Research.

Dr. Kurkjian has been honored as Outstanding Literacy Educator Award from the Connecticut Reading Association and received the New England Reading Association Special Recognition Award (Connecticut) for 2005 presented at its Annual Conference. She served as the Editor Children's Book Department for The Reading Teacher (2003-2007), Journal of the International Reading Association.
