PROJECT INFORMATION

The term cyberlesson was coined by Dr. Susan Tancock at Ball State University in Indiana. It is an Internet methods framework that guides students through the reading of text by

  1. Activating and building background knowledge in order to use what is known and to better predict what is to come (BEFORE READING STRATEGIES)
  2. Setting a purpose for tracking information in a text in order to monitor comprehension (DURING READING STRATEGIES)
  3. Revisiting texts in order to think more deeply about them (AFTER READING STRATEGIES)
  4. Extending one’s knowledge about an aspect of a story (BEYOND READING STRATEGIES)

OBJECTIVES OF CYBERLESSON INTERNET PROJECT

    1. To develop and share cyberlessons that are integral to one’s ongoing curriculum
    2. To provide insights and recommendations for  their use in real classroom settings
    3. To encourage educators to participate in a scaffolded Internet Project in order to network with others and to see the benefits that Internet Projects hold for them

PARTICIPANTS: Primary, Elementary, Middle School, High School and College level classes are invited to participate in this Internet Project.

WHAT: Teachers will

  1. Create a Cyberlesson in a PowerPoint Presentation (See DESCRIPTION AND CHECKLIST for each slide and EXAMPLES) that is integral to the classroom curriculum.
  2.  Try out the cyberlesson in a way that is appropriate to your settings (small group, whole group, individual, with parents as partners, in school, at home etc.)
  3. Share how it was implemented and Reflect on student response, the benefits, drawbacks and make recommendations to refine its use (SEE REFLECTION SHEET).
  4. Email cyberlesson, reflections and scanned student worksamples via attachment  to Catherine Kurkjian at kurkjianc@ccsu.edu for posting

WHEN: This project will begin in September 2005 and will run through April 2006. Projects will be posted when cyberlessons, artifacts and reflections are sent in.
