(Please make an appointment whenever possible especially for the 9:30 to 10:00 PM slots since this time was scheduled to accommodate students in my 6:50 classes)

 Course Description:
Study of a wide variety of children's literature. Investigation of the appreciation for literature with children. Competency in storytelling and writing or original stories and poems will also be developed.

Course Objectives:

1. Teach classic and contemporary children's and young adult's literature, and easy reading fiction and nonfiction  at appropriate levels.(2.3)(4.2)
2. Use text and trade books to stimulate interest, promote reading growth, foster appreciation for the written word, and increase the motivation of learners to read widely and independently for information, pleasure and personal growth. .

3. Model and discuss reading and writing as valuable, lifelong activities.

4. Provide opportunities for learners to select from a variety of print and nonprint materials, to read extended texts, and to read for many authentic purposes.

5. Provide opportunities for creative and personal responses to literature, which may include storytelling and use of multiple sign systems.

6. Use instructional and information technologies to support literacy learning.

7. Select and evaluate various types of children's books applying criteria based on literary and artistic guidelines, multicultural considerations and research on children's needs, interests and reading preferences.

Other Requirements:  It is a university requirement that everyone obtain an ID Blue Chip card. You can obtain one at the Card Office in the Student Center Rm. 106, M-Th from 9AM- 7 Pm and on Fridays from 9AM to PM.  This is a simple 5-minute process in which you have your picture taken.  You may then set up your email at the accounts link at https://accounts.ccsu.edu/wacctmgt/   You will be required to enter your 8 digit CCSU  ID from your Blue Chip card, the last four digits of your SSN, and your birth date.
