Introduction: Syllabus, Course Requirements, Work Groups by level (prim-intermed.-middle-high school) No more than 4 students to a group)

 NCTE/IRA Standards  and review the Connecticut  English Language Arts Frameworks

 

Review Framework of your choice

Science Frameworks
Math Frameworks
Social Studies Frameworks

 

Find 2 articles on writing to read and to share with your work group (primary, intermediate, middle school & high school level. Plan to make copies of these articles for work group members for next time. Make sure that each member of your work group has a different article.

Preparation Next Class

Integrated Language Arts Proposal (professional literature referenced and attached)

Decide on a focus for your Unit and Cyberlesson. Familiarize yourself with the NCTE/IRA Standards  and review the Connecticut  English Language Arts Frameworks. Decide on a content area of focus and review Frameworks for that area.  Your units will vary in emphasis depending on your situations. Please decide on a focus that will be useful to your own work.

Social Studies Frameworks
 Quick write a short proposal with rationale, area of focus you are considering and a few ideas of what you envision your outline to look like.

The Story of a Seagull and the Cat who Taught Her How To Fly CYBERLESSON SLIDES 1 -5  Talking Point: When you view the videos of gulls think of the vocab. that might be generated to build the reader's background.

JUNE 12 Thursday

Cyberlesson Slides 1-5 and 6&7

 

Discuss ideas for focus and conduct independent research to find two content related articles- One that focuses on the actual topic and one that focuses on teaching that content.

 

Work groups share and class status report

Preparation Next Class

Think about a book that would be appropriate for your cyberlesson, and the content area you would like to address. Gather materials, ideas for activities, become familiar with standards etc. Read article on integrating your content area into the language arts and on your actual content area.

Online discussion of articles on writing (via email or blog) (Please take the lead in the discussion of one of your articles. Consider how the article will inform your unit- how it connects to your own teaching. As leader invite members of your group to respond and elaborate by posing provocative questions. It is expected that everyone in your workgroup has read your article and is ready to discuss it with you online.

Select book for cyberlesson – find related websites- begin to think of where it will fit into your unit- sketch out ideas for Before, During, After and Beyond Activities
