Mondays: Every 2nd and 4th Monday from 3PM-5PM, remaining Mondays 4:30-6:30 PM
Wednesdays: 3:00-4:00 & 9:30-10:00 PM
Thursdays: 3:00-4:00 & 9:30-10:00 PM

(Please make an appointment whenever possible especially for the 9:30 to 10:00 PM slots since this time was scheduled to accommodate students in my 6:50 classes)

Course Description:

Survey of current reading practices and materials in the schools.  Emphasis on developmental reading from pre-school through high school and into adult years.

Course Objectives
Acquire knowledge of current perspectives about the nature and purposes of reading and about current issues and trends in developmental reading K-12 as this pertains to:

    factors that influence literacy: physical; mental; social/cultural; emotional; language and political,

     programs, approaches, and materials which meet individual needs: attention given to all children in a mainstreamed classroom (including ELL, special education, learning disabled, physically handicapped students).

    the implementation of research based practice as they relate to literacy skills and teaching/assessment techniques such as: phonics, phonemic awareness; comprehension; fluency, vocabulary development, writing process, reading & writing connection, and technology as it intersects with literacy.

    the  acquisition and the  sharing of knowledge of reading and learning processes by reading professional journals and publications and participating in conferences and other professional activities.

Other Requirements: It is a university requirement that everyone obtain an ID card.
