Welcome
Welcome to the website of the Literacy Essentials
Conference.
In 2008, the conference will once again be held at
Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, CT on Saturday,
March 1st. In keeping with the high caliber of speakers and presenters
at our first annual conference, this year's keynote speaker will be
Dr. Richard Allington, a renowned educator and scholar in the field of
literacy education, whose knowledge and experiences can inspire,
inform and engage. Numerous papers, roundtable and panel discussions,
and workshops will also be presented by researchers and practitioners
in the areas of language, literacy, and culture.
The Literacy Essentials Conference is open to teachers,
academics, researchers, educators, administrators, and other
individuals who are interested in advancing research, curriculum and
pedagogy in reading and language arts in areas ranging from early
childhood to middle and secondary levels, to vocational and higher
education, to workplace, distance, and lifelong learning.
Participants are invited to submit a presentation
proposal for a paper, roundtable, panel discussion, workshop, or
poster session. We also invite participants to nominate deserving
individuals or organizations for the
Advocate for Reading
Professionals Award. The nominees must have, through their advocacy,
made significant literacy contributions in the Greater Connecticut
area. This award will be presented at the Literacy Essentials
Conference.
Everyone attending the conference, including
presenters, must register. Presenters are encouraged to register for
the conference as soon as they receive their acceptance notification.
For all inquiries, please contact the
conference
chairs.
