Electronic Author Study

You will develop a PowerPoint author study that you can use with your students that provides background information on your designated author. Link to an author site and create a short scavenger hunt for the children to do to learn more about the author. Provide an engaging electronic book talk for 4 of your author’s books. Ideas for your electronic booktalk might be: inclusion of a “passage to ponder” that might catch the children’s interest, a letter from one of the characters to another, a simulated journal entry from one of the characters, a character web, a list of questions you might want to ask a character if you could talk with them, links to websites that may relate to something important in each of the particular books. Website links might have to do with the setting of the book, the problem, the time period, the topic etc. and will serve to build background and will entice the readers to read the book. Check out my webpage on methods frameworks to see some examples of genre studies. Please see rubric when you design your study.

Please develop your electronic author study so that you can really use it with the children you teach. Gear it to their level and make it visually appealing and engaging. Try for no more than 10 slides or web pages for this project. Remember you are just giving them “a tasty morsel” of information about the author's books to whet their appetite.

Sample Projects:

Leo Lionni by Jodi Klimas        Carol Smurak by Joy Cooper

Louis Sachar by Michael Pearce
